Sustainability at Bilia
The world is constantly changing and Bilia needs to change with it. Therefore, in recent years, sustainability has been increasingly integrated into Bilia's operations. Our business concept is to create a sustainable business through thoughtfulness and pride by offering attractive and innovative overall solutions for the mobile person. This is not only done to provide added value for our customers, but also because we see sustainability as an important part of our business. Our business concept allows us to grow and contribute to the major societal changes taking place in the world.
Responsibility for the environment and climate
As a company, we have a responsibility to reduce our own impact on the climate and the planet's resources and to help customers reduce theirs. Bilia works with the UN's global goals in Agenda 2030 through our integrated management system. We work systematically with quality and environmental issues and most of Bilia's operations are certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Work is underway to map how we influence and are influenced by sustainability issues, as well as influence our suppliers to take greater responsibility according to our Code of Conduct. We have been doing climate calculations according to the GHG protocol since 2019, and in 2023 we developed the climate report to be significantly more comprehensive in Scope 3.
Circular business model – a more sustainable way of doing business
A cornerstone of our sustainability work is Bilia's circular business model. The circular business model offers the customer help with everything from the purchase of a new or used car, insurance, accessories, service, damage repair and rental car to disassembly and recycling. This is how Bilia affects and is affected by the circular economy:
- Design - Bilia is influenced by the cars' design in everything from creating satisfied customers to being able to dismantle and reuse used car parts. We see that this gives us a unique and broad perspective when it comes to the car's life cycle.
- Extend the life cycle - By helping customers via service and damage repair, we can help extend the life of the cars. Bilia invests in areas within MobiliaCare such as glass repairs, used spare parts, etc.
- Preserve the value - Bilia has a long history of selling used cars and we see it as an obvious part of our circular business model to enable longer use of the car by new owners. We also offer rental cars, which in turn enable the use of the car when needed so that their use becomes more efficient.
- Waste as a resource - Bilia sees the acquisition of car dismantlers and the increased use of used spare parts as important areas. We want to develop the Swedish and Norwegian market to become more circular, but also to recycle materials that are not reused together with different stakeholders.
- Holistic thinking - Bilia is an actor in a large and complex value chain. We see an increased demand for circular solutions and collaborate with various stakeholders via networks and research projects. This makes it possible to contribute to development and also learn, which makes us better prepared for the future.

We have high demands on our partners, who are expected to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. When we enter into agreements with suppliers, we also set demands in accordance with the ten principles of the UN's Global Compact.
Social responsibility and employees
Social responsibility and employees
For Bilia, it is important to have an inclusive work environment. All employees, regardless of background, must be included in the business, feel involved, and work on the same terms. The fundamentals are that Bilia stands on stable culture and core values that is understood by all employees and that there is a good working environment with clear and transparent structures to handle any challenges or conflicts. Our path to success is strong leadership and employee engagement that is based on commitment, competence, authenticity and respect. Together, we create an inclusive environment where everyone feels appreciated for who they are and where they receive confirmation for their work. We are convinced that a workplace made up of colleagues with different experience, knowledge and backgrounds have positive effects on both the working environment and the company's profitability.
Equality enriches
Bilia strives to be an equal organization, where both men and women are represented in all professional groups. We are convinced that a more even gender distribution has positive effects on both the working environment and profitability, but within the industry there is a deficit of women. Bilia employs a special recruitment policy with regular follow-up, pay audits and a gender equality plan.
Competence development for everyone
All employees must have the opportunity to develop based on their role. Through regular employee meetings with the immediate manager, each employee gets the opportunity to discuss their role in the company and raise requests for change, thoughts and ideas about how to take on greater responsibility or take on other types of work. Bilia continuously conducts tailored training aimed at target groups with different training needs and positions.
Collaboration with schools
One challenge Bilia faces is securing future competence. Against this background, Bilia implements collaborative projects with Swedish motor technical high schools and offers students internships and apprenticeships. Bilia's vision is to offer the industry's best student program and during 2021, the student program has taken in 400 students in Sweden and Norway.
Balance in life
In order for work to function properly, our whole life needs to function. Bilia wants to have a long-term and sustainable relationship with our employees. Therefore, we strive to be responsive and, together with the individual employee, find solutions that will benefit both the employee and the company. We also work actively to promote well-being and security through health-promoting programs, healthcare, joint wellness activities and education. Among other things Bilia encourages participation in Grenserittet, a cycling event where all employees in Sweden and Norway are invited to participate. Bilia has been a sponsor of Grenserittet for several years and offers employees participation in the race, accommodation, food at the finish line, dinner and after-bike in the evening.
Responsibility for human rights and anti-corruption
Bilia works for sustainable business and sustainable employees and therefore supports internationally recognized human rights as well as standards and initiatives for good business ethics.
Competition on equal terms
Bilia has good knowledge of the rules that exist around competition on equal terms and conducts business in a way that is compatible with competition legislation in all countries where we operate. Bilia has developed and implemented a competition code that all employees must follow. The internal Code of Conduct training, which is conducted by all employees, deals with competition rules, among other things.
Zero tolerance towards corruption and bribery
Within Bilia, there is zero tolerance for corruption and bribery. Through the code of conduct, we clearly distance ourselves from corruption and bribery and work for sustainable business. Bilia has implemented work practices to counter and prevent corruption and bribery via the certification system, code of conduct, internal audits and whistle-blower system. No case of corruption or bribery has been discovered in the business.
Whistleblower system
All Bilia's employees and suppliers can anonymously report violations of the code of conduct or other misconduct in an external digital whistleblower system. Notifications were managed in accordance with the policy throughout the year, and the number of reports is considered normal for comparable companies.
Work for a more sustainable value chain
Work with upstream suppliers and subcontractors
Bilia is part of a value chain and thus has a responsibility to influence suppliers and subcontractors to improve based on different sustainability perspectives. We have the greatest impact through our purchases of cars. The automotive industry has long supply chains from raw material extraction to car manufacturers who manufacture and assemble cars. Bilia has little opportunity to influence far back in the value chain. We have therefore chosen to collaborate with car brands that have high sustainability goals and clear ambitions as we see that this gives Bilia the greatest opportunity to contribute to creating a more sustainable automotive industry.
When it comes to suppliers in addition to our car manufacturers, we have a greater opportunity to influence. Bilia has introduced a group-wide code of conduct for suppliers that covers areas such as human rights, anti-corruption, the environment, etc. Bilia also has a group-wide purchasing policy to highlight the sustainability aspects when signing both central and local agreements.
Work with suppliers and customers downstream
As more and more electric cars are produced, we see a shift in climate impact from the use to the manufacture of the car. This means that we choose our car brands with care, as the car's design and production play a major role in sustainability work. But not everyone can afford to buy electric cars and, in turn, the impact of fossil-powered cars on the climate occurs in connection with the use of the car. Therefore, Bilia conducts needs analyses to find the most suitable cars based on our customers' conditions. Reduced climate impact can also be achieved through the sale of HVO and ethanol, but also through the addition of AdBlue in newer diesel cars.
An important part of the car's life cycle is the disposal of the used car. Through Bilia's car disassembly, we are involved in this stage and can work for more circular flows. Here we hope for a growing demand for used parts from both companies and private customers. In addition to lower environmental impact, used car parts are good for the wallet as they cost less. The last step in the life cycle is material recycling, where our waste contractors are an important part of making use of as much material as possible.
